Rachel Ellison
I’ve worked in education for nearly fifteen years, starting as a Special Education teacher and school-based director in Philadelphia public high schools. During my time as an educator, what became evident is that when provided with the right resources and environment, all humans—especially children—can grow, learn and thrive. Yet, what we often see, particularly in our systemically under-resourced communities, is that not all children are offered the same opportunities and access to the resources needed for a high-quality, holistic education. Seeing the deep systemic issues and its impact on my students, I became driven to push for system-level change, leading me to the education nonprofit space.
During my time in nonprofits, I’ve worked in both the investment and development lanes across local and national organizations. I’m excited to refocus efforts locally as Elevate 215’s Chief Development Officer, and work alongside partners to ensure that every student in Philadelphia has access to a great school.
Outside of work, I’m the mother of two young children. My husband, kids and I spend most of our time outdoors, and especially enjoy going camping.
