JOB SUMMARY

The Communications Coordinator will execute communication strategies to enhance the visibility of Elevate 215 and support strategic outreach efforts. The Coordinator collaborates with internal teams to convene partners, implement solutions, and share the modern learning experience with a specific focus on quality schools. This position will work with the entire Elevate 215 team and will report directly to the Director of Communications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications Department

  • Research & Communications Projects: Conduct research to gather data, insights, and best practices relevant to Philadelphia education and community engagement.
  • Social Media Strategy & Execution: Develop and implement content strategies for Instagram and LinkedIn, including the creation of original content and active engagement with partner organizations’ social media accounts.
  • Writing & Public Relations: Research and draft press releases for the Elevate 215 website, with a focus on education and community affairs in Philadelphia.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams to support strategic communications and public affairs initiatives across the organization.
  • Media & Outreach Support: Maintain and update media contact lists to strengthen communication and outreach efforts.
  • Event Support & Community Engagement: Assist in the planning and execution of events that build relationships with civic organizations and deepen community ties.

Talent Investments Department

TeachPHL

  • Social Media: Create and manage content for social media platforms, implementing targeted strategies to maintain a consistent brand voice and drive community engagement. Develop and launch targeted digital advertisements on Meta platforms and LinkedIn, monitoring performance metrics to assess campaign effectiveness.
  • Newsletters and SMS Marketing: Develop and execute strategic marketing campaigns to support teacher recruitment efforts in Philadelphia, leveraging social media, email marketing, and SMS platforms. Design and distribute newsletters for the Aspiring Teacher Database, using performance analytics to track engagement and measure growth.
  • Website Development: Generate engaging website content aligned with key organizational initiatives, while regularly updating web pages to ensure accuracy and relevance.

Philadelphia Citywide Talent Coalition

  • Event Management: Participate in and provide technical support during meetings, both virtually and in person, as needed. Support Coalition events by contributing to content creation for social media and website platforms.

School Investments Department

  • School Stories (School Visits): Attend school visits to gather research for Elevate 215’s stories. Maintain a tracker in Google Sheets to organize and manage these stories.
  • Community Engagement: Create posts for the Elevate 215 website surrounding various school visits coordinated by the School Investments team.
  • Assist with special projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Deep commitment to the mission and vision of Elevate 215 and providing leadership in achieving educational equity for all children in Philadelphia.
  • Experience working in the K-12 ecosystem both inside schools and inside or with partners supporting K-12 (talent providers, program providers, funders, other education non-profits).
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written, and a passion to develop relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to build strong relationships across diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Superb project management and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data insights into actionable solutions.
  • Evidence of background in interpreting multiple forms of data and creating honest and compelling stories about the progress and impact of investments using analytics.
  • A strategic and meticulous thinker with the ability to balance competing priorities, complex situations, and tight deadlines; comfort leading within ambiguity.
  • Possesses a self-motivated and entrepreneurial approach with a willingness to work as part of a team to meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, email marketing platforms (MailChimp and Klaviyo preferred), graphic design platforms (i.e. Canva, Adobe, etc.).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of professional experience in communications or public affairs.
  • Experience in social media strategy, email marketing, and press release development.
  • Prior experience in the K-12 ecosystem preferred but not required.
  • A demonstrated passion for educational equity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required such as:

  • Traveling to offsite meetings – valid driver’s license and/or access to transportation when necessary.
  • Functioning in office space — reaching file cabinets, filing, faxing, scanning, coping, typing, mailing, making phone calls.
  • Must be able to sit for up to two hours looking at a computer monitor, using a keyboard/mouse and typing.
