ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

Elevate 215 is a catalyst for preparing students for the world of tomorrow by modernizing the learning experience in Philadelphia schools today. We do this by investing in schools and talent, collaborating with our partners, expanding access and resources for families, and advocating to create the conditions for success. Elevate 215 is seeking a Program Officer who will lead the organization in establishing a strategic vision to secure the financial resources needed for sustainability and growth.

JOB SUMMARY

The School Investments Senior Program Officer plays a key role in managing and strengthening Elevate 215’s portfolio of schools and partner organizations receiving investment support from Elevate 215.

The School Investments Senior Program Officer will serve as a trusted thought partner to school leaders, conducting school visits, reviewing data and progress toward grant metrics, and providing strategic guidance to help school leaders strengthen instructional systems, leadership structures, and student outcomes.  The Senior Program Officer will also contribute to the development of citywide learning opportunities for school leaders, including convenings, communities of practice, and the sharing of promising practices across the Elevate 215 portfolio.  The School Investments Senior Program Officer reports directly to the Deputy Chief of School Based Initiatives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Portfolio Management

  • Manage a portfolio of school investments across Elevate 215’s grant programs, including Beat the Odds and other school improvement initiatives.
  • Build strong relationships with school leaders and leadership teams across the portfolio.
  • Conduct regular school visits to observe instruction, review leadership systems, and assess school progress.
  • Monitor grantee performance against grant metrics and provide feedback to strengthen implementation.
  • Support schools in identifying challenges and connecting them with resources, partners, or strategies that accelerate improvement.

Strategic Grantmaking

  • Source potential investments aligned to Elevate 215’s strategy for expanding high-quality schools in Philadelphia.
  • Conduct due diligence on potential grantees including school visits, leadership interviews, financial review, and student outcome analysis.
  • Develop investment memos and recommendations for the Investment Committee and Board.
  • Draft grant agreements and manage grant execution processes.

Field Building and Learning

  • Identify promising practices from across the portfolio and share lessons learned with stakeholders.
  • Support the design and execution of Elevate 215 leadership convenings and Communities of Practice.
  • Contribute to the development of resources that help school leaders implement high-impact practices aligned to Elevate 215’s School Quality framework.

Data and Impact Analysis

  • Analyze academic, operational, and organizational data to monitor school progress.
  • Track portfolio outcomes and contribute to board reporting and impact analysis.
  • Identify trends across investments and help inform strategic decisions about future investments.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Deep commitment to the mission and vision of Elevate 215 and its role in achieving educational equity for all children in Philadelphia.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written, and a passion to develop relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Superb project management and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data insights into actionable solutions.
  • A strategic and detail-oriented thinker with the agility to balance competing priorities, complex situations, and tight deadlines; comfort leading within ambiguity.
  • Strong understanding of effective school leadership, instructional systems, and school culture.
  • Ability to assess classroom instruction and provide actionable feedback to school leaders Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Google Workspace (Google Sheets, Google Docs) and CRM databases (with a preference for Salesforce).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience required.
  • Experience working in K-12 education (public, public charter, or private) or in organizations that support schools, preferably in Philadelphia, is strongly preferred.
  • Classroom teaching experience or school-based experience preferred.
  • Understanding of school operations, instructional improvement, and school leadership.
  • Experience supporting school improvement initiatives or education programs.
  • Experience supporting professional learning, convenings, or leadership development initiatives.
  • Experience supporting projects, programs, or operational functions in a team environment preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required such as:

  • Traveling to offsite meetings – valid driver’s license and/or access to transportation when necessary
  • Functioning in office space — reaching file cabinets, filing, faxing, scanning, coping, typing, mailing, making phone calls
  • Must be able to sit for up to two hours looking at a computer monitor, using a keyboard/mouse and typing
