Elevate 215 Announces the Hiring of a Chief of Staff and the Appointment of Six New Board Members
The new staff and board members bring a diversity of experiences and backgrounds in education, business and philanthropy
Philadelphia, PA [Thursday, June 20, 2024] – Elevate 215 is pleased to announce the hiring of Tanya Ruley-Mayo as chief of staff, and the the appointment of six new board members, who are excited to work to enhance the organization’s impact on schools and educators, and to expand opportunities to advance academic outcomes for students. Tanya’s role will focus on supporting the organization’s core mission and goals to increase the number of quality schools in Philadelphia. Additionally, the Elevate 215 Board of Directors has appointed six new members: Jessica Cunningham Akoto, Dr. Amelia Coleman Brown, Kate Houstoun, Dr. Michelle Carrera Morales, Andy Newcomb, and Richard B. Worley.
Before joining Elevate 215, Tanya Ruley-Mayo served as the Chief Executive Officer for Independence Charter School, a public charter school in Philadelphia serving over 800 students in grades K-8. In this role, she led the strategic direction of the organization and oversaw the completion of a $10 million capital construction project. Previous to that she worked with Mastery Charter Schools, the School District of Philadelphia, and Philadelphia Youth Network in various policy, education leadership, and administrative roles. Tanya holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Johnson C. Smith University and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Temple University.
